Swathanthra Schools
About us
On the eve of India's Independence recognising the need to educate a new generation of Indians, benevolent people in and around Athippalayam and Vaiyampalayam villages joined together to fulfil this need.
On 16th August 1947, a day after India got Independence from the British rule, the foundation stone was laid for constructing the school. On 10th June 1948, the school started functioning as Government Aided High School with Tamil as primary mode of instruction. Commemorating the Independence of our mother land, the school was proudly, significantly and appropriately named as “SWATHANTHRA HIGH SCHOOL”.
In 1980 the school was elevated to higher secondary level paving the way for next milestone. Today Swathanthra Higher Secondary School provides both Tamil and English medium education and has Government Aided and Non-Aided sections.
In keeping the broader requirements, it was decided to provide English medium education at affordable cost for village children. To fulfil this need “Swathanthra Nursery and Primary School” was started in 1994 as non-Aided section. While the Government section of Swathanthra Higher Secondary School provides free education a student from economically weaker families, the non-aided Swathanthra Nursery and Primary School ensure affordable education accessible by large number of students.
